What steps are needed to set up my HarvestEye system?

The following sections set out the steps required to configure your system and prepare it for use with your crop. Please read these instructions carefully, as the configuration process varies depending on the product you are using (On-Harvester, On-Conveyor or Handheld).

1. Customer Details Form

The reports and data generated by HarvestEye can be configured to match your specific business requirements, helping you obtain maximum value from the system with minimal effort.

To help us understand your needs and pre-configure your account for tailored reporting from day one, we strongly recommend completing one of the forms below.

Please select the form that corresponds to the type of product you have acquired:

  • If you have acquired only a On-Conveyor or On-Harvester system, please complete this form
  • If you have acquired only a Handheld system, please complete this form.
  • If you have acquired an On-Conveyor or On-Harvester system with a Handheld add-on, please complete this form.

2. Installation

2.1 On-Harvester/On-Conveyor

For On-Harvester/On-Conveyor systems, which are designed to operate with crop running on conveyors, you should allow approximately 1-2 hours to install all components. Please download the installation manual for detailed step-by-step guidance. This document also includes instructions on how to use the tablet.

We also encourage to review this short article on best installation practices for installing the system, to help ensure that the data recorded is as accurate and reliable as possible.

2.2 Handheld

The Handheld has a straightforward setup and only requires attaching the RAM mount and camera to the tablet. Please download the Handheld user guide for detailed instructions.

We also strongly recommend reviewing the additional guidance on best practices for using the Handheld, as following these can can significantly improve sizing accuracy.

2.3 Camera Calibration Health Checks

After installation, regardless of the HarvestEye product that you've acquired, we strongly recommend carrying out a camera calibration health check to confirm performance is within specification. Please refer to this guide for instructions on performing the calibration check. This process should take only a couple of minutes.

3. Portal Account Configuration

3.1 Account Credentials

As part of the subscription, you will have access to the HarvestEye web portal, where you can add your fields and varieties (see next section for details), and data can be viewed and analysed (only for On-Harvester/On-Conveyor systems).

By the time you receive your system, you should also have received an email with your login credentials. If you did not receive that email or if you are experiencing any issues logging in, please contact us at support@harvesteye.com.

3.2 Add Fields and Varieties

HarvestEye processes data at field and variety level. Fields and varieties cannot be created directly on the tablet; they must first be added in your web portal account, then downloaded to the tablet. Please refer to this guide for step-by-step instructions on adding fields and varieties.

3.3 Band Configuration for Handheld Reports

This step applies only to users with a Handheld system. When a photo is captured, you will receive reports in your email inbox within about one minute. These reports can show count and weight metrics by size band intervals (e.g. < 40 mm, 40-60 mm, etc...), which must be configured in the web portal. Please refer to this guide for instructions on setting up the bands.

3.4 Demonstration of the Portal

If you would like a demonstration of the HarvestEye web portal, please email us at support@harvesteye.com to arrange a session.
