What do I do if my Handheld system has a power issue between the tablet and camera?

If your HarvestEye Handheld camera isn’t powering on or connecting, the issue is often related to the USB-C to USB-C cable or insufficient power delivery. Follow the steps below to identify and resolve the problem.

Overview

HarvestEye Handheld systems rely on a USB-C to USB-C connection to supply both power and data from the tablet to the camera.
If the cable or port cannot deliver sufficient power, the camera may fail to power on or connect.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

1. Check Both USB-C Ports on the Tablet

  • The tablet has two USB-C ports.

  • Plug the HarvestEye-supplied camera cable into the first port and connect the camera.

  • Restart the tablet.

  • Repeat this process using the second USB-C port (restart required each time the camera is disconnected/reconnected).

👉 This confirms whether the issue is isolated to a single port.

2. Confirm the USB-C Cable Power Rating

  • The HarvestEye camera requires a USB-C cable capable of 100W Power Delivery (PD).

  • Many USB-C cables look identical but only support lower power outputs (e.g. 30W or 60W), which is insufficient.

  • If a non-HarvestEye cable is being used, this is a common cause of power issues.

Requirement:

  • USB-C to USB-C

  • 100W Power Delivery (PD)

  • Short cable length recommended for reliability

3. Test Tablet Charging on Both Ports

This helps confirm the tablet’s USB-C ports are functioning correctly.

  • With the tablet powered on and displaying the home screen:

    • Plug the charger into the first USB-C port

    • Check the battery icon changes to a lightning bolt

    • Repeat using the second USB-C port

If both ports show the charging symbol, the ports are working as expected.

4. Replace the USB-C Cable if Needed

If the camera still doesn’t power on after the checks above, the cable is likely the issue.

Fastest solution:

  • Order a replacement 100W USB-C to USB-C cable (approx. 50 cm / 20 inch length recommended).

Alternative:

  • HarvestEye can supply a replacement cable, but delivery may take up to a week depending on location.

Common Symptoms This Resolves

  • Camera not powering on

  • Camera not detected by the tablet

  • Intermittent connection when moving the cable

  • System works with charging but not with camera connected
