How to add fields and varieties on my portal account?
The HarvestEye team can add fields and varieties on your behalf or the user can do that on the Field Configuration page
There are two methods to add your fields and varieties into your account.
- Add them manually in your portal account.
- Send a spreadsheet to support@harvesteye.com and we will add them on your behalf.
1. Add field information manually
We recommend using this method when you need to add a small number of fields to your tablet at short notice. Please follow the steps below to add fields and varieties manually:
- Log into your portal account.
- On the menu on the left-hand side, click Configuration, then click Field Configuration. You will see a list of fields already added into your account. Note that field names are carried over across years.
- To create a field, first select the harvest year using the field Year setting. This is set to the current calendar year by default, so in most cases you will not need to adjust it. There are a couple of cases where the user may have to change the default value:
- The user is grading crop from last season’s harvest. In these cases, they can select the previous year so the data is recorded against the correct harvest year (i.e. current year is 2026 but fields can be assigned to 2025). This can be done until September of the current calendar year.
- In some situations, harvesting takes place at the beginning of the calendar year. In these cases, you can create fields and assign them to the following year (for example, if the current year is 2025, fields can be assigned to 2026). This option becomes available from September of the current calendar year.
- Click on the button +Add Field. A new menu will appear.
- Fill the required information:
- Field - Field name.
- Varieties - You can one or more varieties to a single field by clicking on the button +Add Variety.
- Private - Only relevant for users operating under an enterprise model (typically larger organisations such as packers or processors). This setting determines whether the data can be accessed by the enterprise. We recommend confirming the appropriate privacy configuration with your enterprise to ensure data settings are correctly applied. See this article for more information.
- Planted Area - Planted area of the variety.
- Type - Type of the variety being processed. This varies depending on the crop type (e.g. potatoes, onions,etc...). Crop like potatoes or sweet potatoes will have two options:
- Ware - Crop grown for human consumption. If selected, the field Options may become available (depending on the crop type) to select different subtypes.
- Seed - Certified disease-free crop grown for planting. If selected, the field generation and seed grade must be supplied.
- Harvested (t/cwt) - If you have a reliable estimate of the yield for that variety in a specific field, you can add this figure. The user can then use the portal to calculate estimated tonnages for each size band interval.
2. Send a spreadsheet with the field information
We recommend using this method when you need to add several fields to your account, as the HarvestEye team can upload them for you in bulk much more efficiently. Please follow the steps below:
-
If you do not already have a field template, you can download it from your portal account. On the left-hand side, click Uploads, then click the Downloads button. A copy of the form will then be downloaded to your device.
-
Email the completed spreadsheet to support@harvesteye.com, and a member of our team will keep you updated.
