How should I store and care for my HarvestEye 2.0 system and tablet during and after the season?

Properly storing your HarvestEye 2.0 system and tablet during the off-season helps protect components, prevent damage, and maintain long-term performance.

Overview

This guide outlines the recommended steps to safely store the HarvestEye 2.0 system and tablet during the off-season (e.g. winter) and for daily overnight storage.

Following these steps helps:

  • Extend the lifespan of your hardware

  • Prevent moisture or frost damage

  • Maintain calibration and data accuracy

Storing the System Over Winter

Preparation

1. Power Down the System

  • Turn off the tablet using the software “Power Off” option before disconnecting power.

  • Disconnect all power and USB connections from the tablet and camera.

  • ⚠️ Do not disconnect the power cable before shutting down the tablet.

2. Clean All Components

  • Wipe the camera shroud and housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

  • Ensure no moisture or debris remains on the lens, connectors, or cables.

  • Never jet wash or immerse any part of the system in water.

3. Check Cables and Connectors

  • Inspect for any damage or corrosion.

  • Coil cables loosely and secure with ties to prevent kinks.

  • Protect USB and D-Plug connectors with dust caps or sealed plastic bags.

4. Protect Against Moisture and Temperature

  • Store electronics (tablet, camera, hub, power converters) indoors in a dry, temperature-controlled space.

  • Ideal storage temperature: 5°C – 25°C (41°F – 77°F).

  • Avoid freezing conditions or high humidity.

  • Place silica gel packets or moisture absorbers inside the storage case.

5. Use the Supplied Flight Case

  • Return all components to the original HarvestEye protective flight case.

  • Label and secure the case to prevent accidental movement or loss.

6. Battery Care

  • Charge the tablet to 50–70% before long-term storage.

  • Recharge every 2–3 months during winter to prevent deep discharge.

Storing the Tablet Overnight (During Season)

End of Day Routine

  • Power off the tablet via software before disconnecting.

  • Disconnect from vehicle power if directly connected to a tractor or harvester battery.

  • ⚠️ Never leave the tablet connected overnight — it may drain the vehicle battery.

Remove and Secure the Tablet

  • Detach the tablet from the RAM mount and store indoors.

  • Avoid leaving the tablet in the cab overnight to prevent condensation or theft.

Charging

  • Charge the tablet indoors using the supplied power adapter.

  • Avoid charging below 0°C (32°F) or above 35°C (95°F).

  • If above 35°C (95°F) it is recommended to have a fan drawing out the heat.

Environmental Protection

  • Store in a clean, dry area, away from direct sunlight and dust.

  • Keep clear of radiators, heaters, and sources of moisture.
