How is the yield per hectare/acre calculated on the Handheld report?
The Handheld extrapolates the total weight seen on the plot area to an hectare or acre
From version 2.2.0 onwards, users can define the plot area of a dig (in m2 or ft2) under Settings -> System Settings -> Report Settings. The total weight of the sample within this plot area is then automatically extrapolated to 1 hectare or 1 acre, depending on the unit configuration selected by the user.
For example, if a user records a sample with a total weight of 2 kg from a plot area of 4 m2, the Handheld will extrapolate this weight from 4 m2 to 10,000 m2 (1 hectare), resulting in an output of 5000 kg/ha (i.e. 5 tons/ha).
Please note the following in the above calculation:
- The Handheld can output results in either t/ha (tons per hectare) or cwt/ac (hundredweight per acre).
- The unit selected for the plot area determines this output. If the plot area is set in m2, the result will be expressed in t/ha. If the plot area is set in ft2, the result will be expressed in cwt/ac.
- The unit chosen for the total sample weight (kg or lb) does not affect this calculation. The Handheld automatically converts the values to present the result in the correct format based on the selected unit for the plot area.
- If the user enters the total sample weight, the Handheld will use this value. If not, it will use the total weight predicted by the device's weight model to complete the calculation.
